CHEERING FOR VICTORY IN OVER TIME     4th July 2009

Team Strommen defeated Amazon Grimstad 1 - 0  in Toppserien action last Saturday. Team Strommen's forwards were not having a good day in taking their scoring chances, so Rhian Wilkinson stepped up to score and to win the game  in the 92nd minute of  play. When she received the ball in front of the Amazon goalie, she kept her cool, and placed the ball safely in the back of the net.

Although she scored the goal, Rhian was quick to give credit to her team mates. She called the pass she received in front of the goal a kind of "magical touch from Marit Sandvei. The way Marit played today and then to send that pass was impressive", said Rhian.

 In the first 90 minutes of play, Team Strømmen controlled the game and created many chances, but they were not able to score. Coach Janne Jansson, was very disappointed with this. "To me, it's almost unbelievable that we were unable to score on all the chances we created. Although he criticized the team for wasting so many opportunities, he thought it was important to give the players a positive message as well. "We were the best team for the whole 90 minutes and we played very well. The eventual win was well-deserved."

Rhian agrees that Team Strommen was the better team. "Amazon worked hard and their defense worked well. But Team Strømmen was faster and more skilful. We played well. We were just unlucky not to score earlier."

The last minute goal made for a good 4 hour bus ride home. The trip is very different if we have won. The journey feels much shorter for a start.
