TEAM STROMMEN NEEDS TO
REORGANIZE & GET BACK ON TRACK
21st June 2009 Translation
by Per Kristiansen
With yet another loss in Toppserien
League play, this time away to Floya 1 - 2, Team Strommen faces a
long and difficult path if they wish to get back to the top in
Norwegian soccer.

Earlier this week,
Team Strommen received a blow when powerful defence player Hilde
Hansen, announced her retirement at a time when the defence has been
struggling. Two more blows came with the losses to Roa and Floya.
This has been a remarkably bad week for the team.
Janne Jansson, the
Team Strømmen coach, is aware of the problems and the situation, and
he knows that the team needs to get back on a winning track. Kolbotn,
the League leaders, are next up on Tuesday 23rd June, then Kattem
and Staebek soon afterwards. To be able to fight for medals this
season, Team Strommen will need to produce some strong victories
against the best teams in the league.
Jansson feels that his team did not play badly. If victory depended
on the chances you manufacture in a game and time of possession,
then Team Strømmen
would have earned 6 points in their last two games versus Fløya. The
reality is that they earned only a single point. "We owned
the game, created
chances and had possession for most of the match. But Fløya was
cynical and effective. They took their chances and kept us closed
down."
Jansson continued
to say that it is not enough to score one goal in a game like this.
We will never play negative soccer like Fløya, whatever happens,
even if it costs us points. "I felt we were closing in and could
still win the game when when Diana Matheson received Rhian's pass
and scored. There were still 30 minutes left in the game, but it
didn’t turn out that way I’m afraid."
Defensive left back
Marit Sandvei did a good game, her third in a row as one of Team
Strømmen's best performing players. She is normally a wing,
but she took up the challenge and delivered very well in her new
position.
The coach summed
up the situaton by saying "’m
pretty satisfied with the team in general; it was a much better game
than the home game against them. The difficulty is that at the end
of the day it is the goals which count and
Team Strømmen
hasn’t been scoring goals this season.
