TROUBLE ORGANIZING THE TROOPS AGAINST ROA   15th June 2009

Everything seemed ready and propitious for Team Strømmen's return to Toppserien League action with their match against Røa on Sunday 14th June 2009. The weather remained good, but still some 330 spectators came to LSK stadium to cheer the home team on. Both teams started the game aggressively, although this was tempered by some hesitations and nervousness. However, at only the 7 minute mark, Team Strommen conceded a corner and Roa scored. It was the first of three in a losing game.

 Before this match, Team Strømmen had only allowed 7 goals into their net and the defence had been solid. However, Røa showed Team Strommen the difference between a pretty good team, and a really good Toppserien team in their victory. The Team Strommen defence, playing in a 4-4-2 formation, had problems in alignment, defensive tactics and clearing dangerous balls. 

"Røa is a skilful team, and they really made it hard for us today. We expected their strengths and were aware of their qualities, "commented Anne Myren Stenstvedt, " meeting a team like Røa means that we have to be at our best, but we were not there today."

She added, "We failed in most of the important situations. We ran into trouble and gave away the ball in difficult situations instead of cleaning up and clearing the ball far away. When we had our own opportunities, we were not effective enough."

It is always hard to recover from conceding an early goal, and this was the case here. Although Team Strommen created numerous scoring chances, the team failed to put them away. We outplayed Roa for the last 30 minutes if the first half, but we could not convert pressure into points. The half time score remained as 1 - 0.

The second half began much the same as the first. After six minutes, Roa scored. Team Strommen went on the create some more great chances, but the two goals seemed to knock all the air out of them.

In the end. Røa was the better side in this match, but the score line is flattering. Team Strommen needs to return to playing well as this Saturday we have to fly to play what will be a hard game against Floya in the North. The games MVP was Diana Matheson.

In other news, Rhian and Diana, with the team, took part in a marketing and sponsorship activity this week. They attended a shipping

 conference and exhibition and were in charge of shipping the crates and moving materials. Scary thought!
