SOCCER REPORTS: OPENING MATCH TIED by Per Kristiansen 14th April 2009 The Norwegian Topserrien season began yesterday with Team Strommen playing Arna Bjørnar to a 0 - 0 tie. The match is the first of three in this first week of play, then a break and 14 matches in a row.
The game started off well for Team Strømmen and they dominated the first 15 minutes of the match. After 5 minutes, midfielder Marit Sandvei had a shot hit the crossbar.
Arna Bjørnar showed why they are expected to do well this season in their fast counter-attacks. As the first half reached the mid-point, Arna began to take over the tempo of the match, and Team Strommen's midfield appeared to have trouble matching their speed. Only the Team Strommen defence seemed to keep them at bay and kept Arna's chances to a minimum. Arna thought they ghad scored at the 30 minute mark, but the score was called back. The first half ended up an evenly played 0-0.
The second half started off where we ended the first, with Arna pressing. But, not for long. In a shrewd coaching move, Diana Matheson was pushed back to the mid-field to replace Nasra Abdullah. The positional change stabilized the mid-field and Team Strømmen began to dominate the game more.
The only chance Arna had in the last 30 minutes was when Team Strømmen lost the ball in their own half. Neither side could produce the winning goal despite some good shots from Strommen. The game remained a close fought encouter and a 0 - 0 tie was probably a fair result.
