CANADA ANNOUNCES SQUAD FOR CAMP & MATCH VS  SWEDEN

 CSA Report                                    9th November 2011

Canada's WNT has announced its squad for the camp and upcoming Women's International Friendly match against Sweden on 22 November.

Coach John Herdman has selected 21 players for the 12-day camp that opens 12th November in Phoenix, Arizona.

At the end of the camp, the Women's International Friendly match against Sweden, who are on a North American tour, will be played at the Grand Canyon University Soccer Field in Phoenix. The match, which kicks off at 12.00 local (15.00 ET / 12.00 PT), will be closed to the general public. Already this year, Canada and Sweden have a win and a loss against each other. Canada won the first match 1:0 in January in China PR, while Sweden won the second match 1:0 in April in Sweden.

Canada's squad includes 12 players who participated in the 2011 Pan American Games Guadalajara. They helped Canada win its first-ever gold medal. The squad also features five players who just finished their club seasons in Sweden. All five took part in the first camp in September, but missed the Pan American Games to finish their 2011 club seasons. These five returning players are Erin McLeod, Stephanie Labbé, Carmelina Moscato, Emily Zurrer and Melissa Tancredi.

Also included is one player returning from injury (Marie-Eve Nault) and three players arriving from University soccer teams in Canada and USA (Laura Chénard from Université Montréal and Alyscha Mottershead and Tina Romagnuolo from Syracuse University). This will be 20 yerar old Mottershead's  first call-up to the national "A" team. She has participated in numerous youth camps from 2007 to 2008 and was a member of Canada's FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup team at New Zealand 2008.

So far this season, Canada has posted 13 wins, four draws and six losses. It marks the second time in national history that Canada has posted 13 wins in a single year. The 22 November 2011 match will be Canada's 24th match of the season, which also ties a national record for international matches in a year.

Since coach Herdman took control in September, Canada has posted three wins, three draws and one loss.

Both Canada and Sweden are currently preparing for the London 2012 Women's Olympic Football Tournament. Sweden qualified earlier this year while Canada still awaits its qualification tournament in January 2012. The 2012 CONCACAF Women's Olympic Qualifying tournament runs 19-29 January in Vancouver, BC.
