CANADA LOSE 0 - 3 TO FIRED UP USA TEAM  23rd September 2011

Abby Wambach scored two goals in a 3-0 victory over Canada in a friendly match at Jeld-Wen Field in Portland, Oregon, on Thursday night. The exhibition was the second of a two-game. Celebration Series. In the first game, the teams had played to a 1-all tie.

In the second game of the "Celebration series," the Americans seemed determined to improve their game. And they succeeded. The United States' team kept intense pressure on a beleaguered Canadian defence which had little respite throughout the match. The Americans have won the past two Olympic gold medals and are ranked No. 1 in the world coming off a shootout loss to Japan in the FIFA World Cup final.

"I think [the U.S.] were well worth the win tonight," Canadian head coach John Herdman told The Canadian Press. "They definitely found another gear. But we were able to hang on. We showed some resilience. "The Canadian players never lost their spirit."

A crowd of 18,570 attended the match in Portland. Canada coach John Herdman said he's happy with what he's seen in his short time with the Canada squad.

Abby Wambach paid tribute to the increasing competitiveness of world soccer. "It's a dogfight, man. People don't understand," said Wambach, who was speaking of the match against Canada,  "We think we are one of the best teams in the world, but it's one of those things. You have to prove it every time you step on the field because every country is getting better."
