RHIAN'S SOCCER AND MEDIA REPORTS

PRE WOMEN'S WORLD CUP FRIENDLY VS NETHERLANDS 28 May 2011

Canada picked up its eighth victory in its 2011 season on Saturday 28 May at its national training camp in Europe. The conditions were hot and difficult as the Canadian women won 2:0 over Netherlands with a pair of second-half goals from by Jodi-Ann Robinson and Christina Julien. Canada now improves its record to eight wins, one draw and two losses in 2011. The conditions were hot and hard.

The coach of the Netherlands team, Roger Reijner, commented that the Canadian players were very fit, constantly on the move and pressuring everywhere. His Netherlands team did not have an answer in a deserved victory for Canada.

The Dutch, like Canada, were without a number of players who had opposed Canada in the Cyprus Cup. However, the Canadians were also without Sinclair, Chapman, Parker and Rhian Wilkinson.
The Sunday 2:0 victory over Netherlands was Canada’s second win against the Dutch this year. Canada previously defeated Netherlands on Wednesday 9 March in the Cyprus Women’s Cup championship final. Canada won that match 2:1 after extra time.

The Dutch play Germany on June 7 at Tivoli stadium in Aachen.

Canada, whose title sponsor is Winners and presenting sponsor is Teck, will continue to train in Europe before arriving in Germany on 19 June. Canada’s next international match is this 7 June against Hungary.

In the evening we went into Rome to watch the Champions League finals at an Irish bar in the city. I really enjoyed the first half, as it was still a contest, but in the second it was all a little one sided. The better team Barca won, but I still would have wished for a slightly closer game.
