SOCCER REPORTS

CANADA ANNOUNCES  A ROSTER FOR BRAZIL  26th November 2010

Canada has announced its Canada A roster for the upcoming Torneio Internacional Cidade de São Paulo. Canada will play four matches from 9th -19th December in São Paulo, Brazil. The four-match tournament will close Canada’s 2010 season.

'It is important that we build on our momentum and continue to prepare for Germany 2011,' said national coach Carolina Morace. 'Unfortunately, we have a few players who are absent due to college commitments, so we will try some different things with this camp.'

Canada will assemble in Brazil 30th November. Coach Morace has selected 22 players and Canada opens  9th December against the Netherlands (17.45 ET / 14.25 PT). Then follow matches against Mexico on 12th December (16.00 ET / 13.00 PT), 15th  December against Brazil (20.00 ET / 17.00 PT) and on 19th December against one of the three teams in either the championship or 3rd place match.

Before the first match on 9th December, the Canadian staff will have both the national 'A' team and the women’s U-18 team in São Paulo, with separate sessions for each group. Each day, a few players from the U-18 camp will be invited to train with the national team.

FIFA reports that "Canada is enjoying perhaps its most successful period in their history, having come out on top in the CONCACAF Women’s World Cup Qualifying competition for the first time. They reached the FIFA Women’s World Cup Germany 2011 in style, winning all five qualifying matches, scoring 17 goals and conceding none." FIFA names Canada's stars as Christine Sinclair, who is the outstanding performer on the squad, leading a prolific front line with élan. The Canadians also have their stars at the back, with goalkeeper Karina LeBlanc and defender Rhian Wilkinson playing a major hand in their five consecutive clean sheets."
