SOCCER MEDIA REPORTS:

Wilkinson Off to Norway

19th August 2005
Speedy forward to join Strømmen in chase for title.

The Ottawa Fury’s Canadian international Rhian Wilkinson has joined the Norwegian club Team Strømmen of the Norwegian Toppserien League. Wilkinson had a banner year as the Fury took second place at the 2005 W-League championships. She led the W-League in with 38 points (13 goals and 12 Assists) and was elected to the 2005 W-League Championship All-Tournament team, an honor she also won in 2004. Rhian, from Baie d'Urfe, Quebec, has 16 caps for the Canadian National Team since making her debut against the USA in April 2003.

With the W-League season now over in North America, Rhian, from Baie d'Urfe, Quebec, looked to Europe to continue playing through the Fall. Canadian National team head coach Even Pellerud used his contacts to open the door for Rhian at Team Strømmen and Fury coach Frank Lofranco and Owner John Pugh facilitated the move so that Rhian would be able to play this weekend and assist in Team Strømmen’s challenge for the Toppserien title. Oslo-based Strømmen currently sit in second place after 10 games three points behind Koboltn. The Norwegian league wraps up in November.

“We are delighted for Rhian – she has had a tremendous third season with the Fury and I am sure she will excite the fans in Norway with her pace and trickery on the ball”, commented Fury coach Frank Lofranco. “This is a great opportunity for her and will help Rhian in her quest to be a member of Canada’s 2007 World Cup team.”
