RHIAN'S SOCCER JOURNALS:
NATIONAL TEAM SUPPORT IN "SHAVE
TO SAVE" 30 September 2007
by Webmaster

Some Journal readers will know that Rhian has a twin sister called Sara, and that Sara works as a nurse in
Montreal's Children's hospital. Sara writes to let us know what a remarkable group of women the National Team
really are.
Of course, we have all heard of their support and team spirit; we know that they are extraordinary role
models for young women; we know that they are world-class soccer players. But Sara would also like us to
know that they are also extraordinarily generous and supportive.
As many readers may know, October is Canada's National Breast Cancer Awareness month, and this year
Sara plans on doing something about it! During the past year several people close to Sara have suffered the
horrific diagnosis of this disease. A local radio station has organized what is called the "Shave to
Save" event: As a means of raising funds, the employees of the radio station will visit volunteers in
their place of work to shave their heads. And guess what? This year they will be coming to the Montreal
Children's Hospital on October 25th, and shaving Sara's head. Or as she puts it ...aarrgghh!
Sara's original goal was to raise $2,000 by October 15th. Rhian asked for support from the National Women's
team while they were in China, and through the generosity of players and coaching and support staff, she received
a significant amount of money. In fact, she has already exceeded the $2,000 mark and is now seeking to increase
her goal to $3,000.
All money raised will be donated to the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation who play an active role in raising
community awareness of this disease. They encourage early detection and support for those afflicted by
breast cancer. Most importantly they fund research, which is the key to finding a cure. A future without Breast
Cancer is a real possibility.
All kudos to the National Team program for their generosity. If you would like to help Sara in this event,
tax receipts are available. Please contact her at her e-mail:
