RHIAN'S SOCCER JOURNALS:
WELL, WE WON
15th September 2007
Well, this wasn’t the prettiest game of soccer we have ever played, and I am sure our fans would agree.
However, we got the job done. We won, and in the end at the FIFA World Cup Tournament, that is all that
matters. I know that the match was on very early on the TV back home, but in case anyone missed the game,
Sincy got two goals, while Sophie and Martina got singles.

I thought that we came out strong, and I am trying to be objective here, because I feel that then, once
again, we sort of took our foot of the accelerator.
We were lucky, when we were only 1-0 up, that Ghana didn’t equalize and I think the ringing of our crossbar
may just have been the wake-up call we needed. Things improved again from there on, but we never did hit full
stride in this match.

The bottom line is that we won the game we needed to win and we are happy. There are many things that we
need to work on. We know this, and we will work hard in the three days we now have to prepare for our game
against Australia in Chengdu.
Australia are a very good team and we will have to be at the top of our game to beat them. They tied Norway 1-1.
There are a few special announcements I should make as well. Andrea Neil officially broke the all-time caps
record tonight with 131. There are some discrepancies, and she in fact broke the record a few games ago, but the
CSA said that this was the game, so there we are.

Also, Christine Sinclair has the Canadian record for the most FIFA Women’s World Cup goals all-time by a single player
with 5 goals. The team also has the Canadian record for most goals in a FIFA Women’s World Cup match (four).
To show how much Erin McLeod is the epitome of a dedicated goalie she had Doc cut a two inch chunk out of her
ponytail right before kick-off. She claims that when she catches the ball, the ends of her hair whipped her in the
eyes. Hence she gave doc the scissors and now has a new chic hairdo that will need some adjustments tomorrow.
On the same subject, namely Erin, she didn’t have any green spandex for her game uniform, so she ended up using
green colored sharpies for the bottom two inches of her white spandex shorts!

Finally, a very well done to Amy Walsh and Robyn who were both selected for drug testing, and they both made it
back to the bus before we left the stadium, a feat rarely accomplished.
