RHIAN SOCCER JOURNALS

WELCOMING THE TAPER               8th January 2012

As we approach the end of an intense training period, we were allowed to sleep in again this morning: Very exciting. Most members of the squad, including me, spent the day lounging on our beds, recovering from the last few days of intense fitness and technical work.

A few brave souls, mostly young ones, headed out into the local area of Fullerton for a while, bit but they were definitely in the minority. For my part, I watched some highlights from the big FA Cup Derby, and i can honestly say that I have not had too many Peterborough versus Sunderland match watching opportunities.

The Manchester United versus City game sounded very exciting and I was sorry not to have seen the "Ginger Prince,"  aka Paul Scholes, coming out of retirement and making an impact - crazy. My good friend and Canadian National Team hero and alumna, Amy Walsh, is a huge fan of his and I can only imagine how excited she must have been to see him back on the field, coming out of retirement.

In the afternoon we had a team meeting and then headed back out for training. The session was pretty hard for a pre-game outing, as we are playing the LA Vikings team tomorrow at Fullerton University. However, we are trying to taper and peak for 19th January, not 10th January.

I am looking forward to the Vikings game though and putting into practice what we have been working on. We have been racking up the hours spent on the field, and in the gym., and  in the classroom, and I am looking forward to trying some of these new things out. Tonight will be a quiet one from me, sooooooo only just a little different than usual really: Practice; eating; sleeping; gym; weights; meetings; and now, a game.
