RHIAN SOCCER JOURNALS

BEING TIRED AND BEING TIRED  15th November 2011

I have learned that I need to careful when i write about feeling tired. Yesterday, I was REALLY tired, and now I see that the day before I was just somewhat tired.

For the second day in a row, we started the day off in the weight room. About half the team did endurance work, while the rest of us suffered full body weight workouts. Being in camp for weights work is good. I actually enjoy being in the weight room with the entire team. Certainly, having us all together is motivational.

Everyone settled down to business very quickly and people worked hard and with plenty of focus. I partnered up with Sincy, and I am flummoxed how someone with such "noodle" arms can lift as much as me?

After the morning workout, most of us spent most of the remainder of the day napping. We started to stiffen up and heading out to our afternoon session, we were all well aware that we were in for a tough session out on the field. After a warm up, we did some technical work and then moved into some 6 v 6 games. I really enjoy how we are incorporating our fitness schedule into into soccer sessions. You would be surprised how infrequently this has happened in the past.

We played four games of 8 minutes each, played at flat out attacking soccer pace with 2 minute breaks in between. This may not sound very tough, but it definitely is, after you have suffered two days of hard practice and a workout in the morning. Again I think everyone really put everything into the session and we did well.

Last night, it will not be a surprise to hear that we all slept well.

Today we have the day off for recovery, but we still have to undergo the mobility and stability work in the morning. Most of us then headed to a nearby mall and not because we really wanted to buy anything. We just wanted an option to crashing back into bed for a while.

We had lunch in the food hall, and we were all excited to find a Panera store there: Yummy soups and sandwiches. There were quite a few American players in the mall as well, as their game against Sweden is coming up fast. I think their match against Sweden is on the 19th November.

I was fortunate to meet up with an old Tennessee teammate, Jenny Jeffers. I have not seen Jenny in a long time and so really enjoyed getting the opportunity to catch up with her. The meeting has made ,e look forward all the more to a few hours of watching the Tennessee Women's basketball team playing Miami. GO VOLS!
