THE FLIGHT ATTENDANT FROM HELL  12th November 2011

We are now officially back in camp, and as we knew, it is going to be a tough week for us; a week from hell. However, my experience from hell started  a little earlier.

I was up and en route to the airport by 4:00am, and most of the players had similar early starts making for long days. It was hard to enjoy my flight though, as I experienced one of the worst flight attendants in the history of travel.

I know she may have been having a bad day and can't defend herself, but  seriously, she was awful. I thought it might have been some sort of candid camera episode.

It started when the last passenger arrived late on the plane and tried to open an overhead bin to put his bag in. He found a little spot, joked with us that he had been lucky and then sat down. The flight attendant stormed over. She asked him if when people came to his house, they walked in and left the door open. She said that if you find something closed, then you should close it again once you are done with it.

Of course he SHOULD have closed the bin after he was done with it, but he forgot. She was incredibly rude. The next victim was the woman next to me who needed the toilet. She lined up and there was a long line. When she finally had her turn, she didn't pull the latch the whole way across. The flight attendant then proceeded to open the door twice, informing her each time she did it, that the latch was there for a reason…. I am not making this up.

Finally, it was my turn. She passed by with the drinks cart and asked if anyone in my row wanted a drink. No one did. As she was passing I thought that actually I might want a glass of water after all, so I tapped her gently on the shoulder and said "excuse me." Evil flight attendant then spun around and proceeded to poke me in the shoulder a few times while putting an arm around me and saying, "Honey, isn't being poked irritating?"

I haven't felt so angry in a very long time and was proud of myself for not saying everything I had on my mind to say. However, I do think she knew what I thought of her. The man working with her as a flight attendant, brought me a chocolate bar later on the flight. Poor guy. He seemed mortified to be working with such a colleague.

Once landed in Phoenix, the rest of the day seemed to go very fast. We had lunch at 2:00pm and then headed for a meeting at 3:00pm, followed by departure for training at 4:00pm. It was busy.

The session was a tough one, especially because of our long travel day. This staff knows what it is doing though, and they had warned us that this was going to be an intense week. If the first few hours are any indication, they were not exaggerating. It was nice to be back on the field with everyone again though, and I thought everyone worked their tails off. I am now off to bed, as we start again tomorrow just after 6:00am. Yikes!
