VICTORY OVER COLUMBIA      258th October 2011

Well, we won tonight's game against Columbia by 2-1, but it was a tight game and we made hard work of it. The Colombian team, as expected, were tough opponents and they pushed us right until the very end. The win over Colombia gives us a shot at the gold medal against Brazil who are two-time defending champions..

We came out very fast and hard in the first 20 minutes, with plenty of passes in our own third of the field. The defence kept its structure and worked well. In attack, we created plenty of chances, but we could not get the ball in the net.

We had to wait until after a scoreless first half, for Kaylyn Kyle to score in the 48th minute. We held that lead for much of the second half, but Columbia equalized.

Thankfully we avoided overtime when Robyn Gayle scored the winning goal from a corner. It was a beautiful goal. The ball came across, she took it off her chest and then with great patience, chipped the keeper. The goal was Robyn’s first international goal and came on her 50th cap for Canada- awesome!

We don't have long, but there are definitely many things for us to work on before the finals. There are also many positives to take from the mach. It is hard to look at a game objectively right after we have have played the game, but we have reached the finals. I am very proud of this team.

Finals are in two days' time, so it is rest, recovery, and then right back at it!
