RHIAN SOCCER JOURNALS

RECOVERY AND PREPARATION      19th October 2011

The coaching staff gave us another opportunity to sleep in late this morning - yeah! and I was already fast asleep again by the time my roommate Karina came back to the room. She was just setting off to training as I started to wake up.  Our goalies, as I have said before, are the best in the world and they work their tails off to stay that way. Of our top three 'keepers only Karina is here. However, the next generation of Canadian net minders is coming up fast and Rachelle Beanlands is definitely holding her own here in Guadalajara.

We had a morning hydrotherapy recovery session in the pool, attended physio, and then held some meetings, so it was a quiet day all in all. The format of playing a game every second day is an exhausting demand, so we are doing our best to take care of ourselves on our day off. WE need to be back in fighting shape for our game tomorrow.

The game against Argentina tomorrow is going to be a tough one and we are, as always, going to need to be at our best. The last time we played them was during the Beijing Olympics when we beat them by a slim 2-1 margin after a hard match.

We are going to suffer a very early start tomorrow morning. The game starts at 10:00 am, so we will probably have to be at the stadium by 08:00am or just after. Eating enough breakfast for a match before the sun even comes up isn’t easy. Thank goodness for nutrition bars.
