FITNESS TESTS & OFF TO MEXICO           10th October 2011

We had more fitness appraisals again this morning, but we have completed it all and I am happy to have all this field testing out of the way. It was a long and tiring day for the squad with the two sessions, but tomorrow we will have an even more trying day with a 4:00 am start.

The testing today encompassed a variety of evaluations: Lactic acid threshold testing; maximum pull-ups, push-ups, squats, vertical and horizontal jumps testing; and finally, the 10 yard and 30 yard sprint times. The testing was all hard, especially the lactic threshold test, but the session went quickly enough.

In the afternoon we practiced out on the field, in the pouring rain, and these were not pleasant conditions. However, I have been reliably informed that we are due to be landing in Mexico just ahead of a major hurricane! So, I guess today's downpour was just a little practice for what we can expect in Guadalajara.

My day certainly improved though when I was able to see my old national teammate Randee Hermus. Randee and her Surrey team have just won the National Championships in Quebec and they arrived home last night. All congratulations to them, even if they did beat a Quebec team to do it. Randee was also able to tell me that Isabel Morneau, another former Canadian soccer superstar, has just given birth to a little boy - we are so happy for you Izzy!

Now I am off to an early bed, as it's going to be a loooooong day tomorrow.
