RHIAN SOCCER JOURNALS

THANKSGIVING AND FITNESS TESTS             9th October 2011

Today was a quiet day as the whole squad prepared for the dreaded evening fitness training. I had hoped that we could run it earlier in the day. The threat of the looming test was not at all pleasant.

However, the relaxed day did allow me to do some Thanksgiving shopping with my sister. She is making the turkey dinner for this evening, so I felt that the very least I could do was to help her with the groceries. I thought that I was making life easier for her, but she kept telling me to go back to the team hotel as I was not very good company. I guess the stress of the upcoming test up was putting me a little on edge. Sorry Sara.

We ran the yo-yo test at 5:00 pm and, overall, I thought the squad did quite well. Kelly Parker and Diana Matheson were both awesome, with Kelly getting somewhere in the high 19's and Diana scoring almost the same. I managed a score in the top third and in general, the scores of the whole squad were quite good. I think that the staff is decently pleased. However, these are still early days and this is not the time when we should be at our fittest. This was really just a baseline test. Needless to say, I am sure those that did well on today's test will not want to hear that.

Straight after the test, a bunch of us hustled out of there. We had family Thanksgiving diners to get to. I enjoyed a really good evening with my sister, my and her friends. The food and the company were top notch. Thank you to everyone involved in the cooking and preparation of an amazing meal.

I would quickly like to say "hi" to a bunch of young soccer players who are staying with us in the hotel here, on the north shore. I think I have already mentioned that it is a wonderful feeling to be back in Canada to train. And, part of this is getting to meet all of Canada's future stars playing at the minor levels. My best wishes to them all.

All best thoughts to everyone for a good Thanksgiving. I hope that for the holiday everyone is safe, happy and healthy
