RHIAN SOCCER JOURNALS

PANAM CAMP UNDERWAY              7th October 2011

National team soccer camp started up again today and it was great to see most of the team again. Five of the regular players on the squad are playing European Cup and League matches in Sweden at the moment, so they won't be joining us in Mexico.

In their stead, we are bringing a bunch of young guns for the PanAm Games. I am looking forward to seeing Canada's next generation of players gaining some experience, and I am looking forward to seeing them in action. I shall have to limit my moans about my old bones. The whole squad started to arrive around lunch time. Some came from further away than others. I was lucky enough to have the shortest commute, thanks to my sister Sara who only lives a 5 minute drive away.

We all sat down to lunch as a squad before getting to business. Then, after eating, we had a team meeting and quickly went to work at the soccer field for the first training session.

A wonderful surprise was waiting for us at the field. Our old teammate Martina Franko was there to welcome us. Martina lives up in Squamish and is the head coach for the Quest University team and proud mother of Micah, age 2.

It was really wonderful to see her out and we are all hoping to see more of her while we are here. We trained at the Capilano College field, a mere 5 minute walk away from where we are staying. The field was in good condition, and thank you to the girls and fans who showed up to watch the session. It is so great be practicing at at home again.

Tonight is rest and recovery before tomorrow's early training session. The break gives me time to look forward to the Rugby World Cup tonight and the Wales versus Ireland match-up. I am excited for the Wales team as they are playing do well.
