RHIAN SOCCER JOURNALS

JOURNAL WRITING, STUDIES & GETTING BACK TO WORK                31st August 2011

I am sorry for taking a hiatus from journal writing, but my studies have had to come first. A big thank you to my father for filling in and trying to extract more journals from me. I especially liked the piece about my hair, which he wrote in the first person. The picture is mot so flattering!

Congratulations to the WPS on a great finals the other night. A year ago, the league seemed to be struggling, and this year they have lost a second commissioner, but the quality of the game on the field is excellent. I hope that they have solidified the league and its finances as the talent on display was unbelievable.

Of course getting to watch my amazing teammates: Chappy who was rock solid as always on defense;  Sincy, the MVP forward;  and, KK doing a fantastic job in front of the camera, made the whole event extra special for me. I had hoped to watch KK and Sophie in the finals with their Florida team, but unfortunately, they were defeated in the semi-finals.

Another shout out goes to my fellow Canadians who are playing abroad. We have several girls over in Sweden plying their trade. And, from all accounts, they are tearing it up. I am sure they are enjoying their time in Scandinavia and I look forward to testing them on their command of the Swedish language once they are back on home soil.

Like the whole team, I am currently waiting anxiously for news on the new national coach for Canada. I think that the announcement will be made soon and I am looking forward to knowing who is going to be leading us into Olympic qualifiers. It is going to be an odd experience going into camp without Andie, Carolina, Betty, Max, and the rest of the former staff.  I loved playing for them and I wish them the best in whatever it is they choose to do next. I have little doubt they will excel.

I am currently winding down my month long break from soccer. We leave for our U.S. tour on 7th September. I have enjoyed the break, and I have worked ahrd at my studies. i have enjoyed getting better acquainted with my nephew, and I think he may even be starting to recognize me.... that, or he always has gas around me.

It has been good to stay at home with the family. However, I have to admit that I am starting to miss my other family: My teammates. It is always a good thing when you are excited about heading into training camp and I feel fit.
