RHIAN SOCCER JOURNALS

READY FOR GERMANY & FIFA'S WWC         18th June 2011

Happy Birthday to my quasi little sister, Rachel Chan of Baie d'Urfe. I can't believe your age. How can someone whom I remember being born, be so old? Please do not try to answer this...

We had a double practice day today, and these are never that much fun. We all worked hard and consequently we are all ready to fall into our beds. The time is not yet 9:00pm.

Departure for Germany and the FIFA World Cup are coming up fast, and I can't wait for the show to begin. The event has always seemed to be getting closer, but in some kind of anticlimactic way, it has never seemed to get any closer. It is hard to believe that something we have been training for so hard for and for so long, is almost here. Words like "exciting" and "nerve- wracking" and "tingling," just don 't seem to do the event any justice.

In the evening, a bunch of us sat outside to relax. The sun sets late here in Rome, and this makes every evening a glorious sight. The heat of the day has gone, but the beautiful blue sky still remains until it is swallowed by sunset.

Even though everyone was tired after all the day's activities, some of the squad still managed to find the vestigial energy to dress up the poor dog which belongs to Carolina, our coach. Agatha as she is called, was impressively patient with everyone trying to fit her into human clothes. Personally, I would have understood completely if she had snapped and bitten a finger or two.

Such are the ways that we keep ourselves occupied in the days that are counting down to Germany,  but the day never seems to arrive.
