MILEPOSTS MARK NARROW WIN OVER HUNGARY  7th June 2011

 

On a day when two players reached milestones in their international careers, Canada defeated Hungary in a Women's International Friendly match 1:0. The victory helps Canada improve to nine wins, one draw and two losses on the 2011 season.

The goal was scored by Diana Matheson, her tenth of her international career, and making her only the 10th player to reach double digits for goals scored. In addition, Brittany Timko made her 100th appearance for Canada (and served as captain in the absence of Christine Sinclair, while Jodi-Ann Robinson made her 50th international appearance.

 

 

Brittany is in her 10th season with Canada’s national team. She made her debut on 9 April 2002 against Japan at the Tournoi international in Limoges, France. She was just 16 years old, the second youngest player ever to play for Canada. She becomes the seventh player to reach the milestone for Canada.

 



Canada's starting Team: Leblanc, Booth, Moscato, Gayle, Wilkinson, Kyle, Matheson, Schmidt, Julien, Filigno, Timko.
 
In the second half, coach Carolina Morace made five substitutions. She replaced Booth for Emily Zurrer (46th minute), Kyle for Chelsea Stewart (46'), Julien for Jodi-Ann Robinson (58'), Timko for Desiree Scott (64'), and Schmidt for Chelsea Buckland (81').
