RHIAN SOCCER JOURNALS

MEXICAN AT THE TREVI             4th and 5th June 2011

Yesterday we only had one training session in the afternoon. This was a good thing too, as the weather was ridiculously hot. Jenn Heil was there watching, and I was impressed with her staying power. The pool looked a heck of a lot more appealing than the soccer field to me. However, the training session was a good one.  I always enjoy our sessions when they end in a scrimmage ... especially when I am on the winning team.

After training, a bunch of us headed into Rome in search of some authentic Mexican food. I know this may sound strange, but we were REALLy craving something other than pasta and Mexican sounded delicious. I admit that this was probably not the greatest time for Jenn to come out to eat with us. She is now going to have to admit to everyone that she went to Rome for some second class Mexican food!

I loved it though, and it was exactly what I, and the rest of the full time Romanophiles, were looking for.

After eating, we headed to the Trevi fountain, because if you don't eat dinner like an Italian you may as well make up for the pasta with some genuine gelato in front of that beautiful fountain.

We had the day off today, and it felt great to just lie in bed and not have an alarm set. Of course, as it was a day off, it rained all day, but that meant nothing thanks to the amazing Stanley Cup win by the Vancouver Canucks. Some crazy fools in our squad arose at 2:00 am to watch, but the majority of us were content watch a replay at 2:30 pm.  I even managed to avoid learning the score or anything about the exciting finish. There is a pact on the team that no one is to mention anything about the hockey games for the entire day after said game. Of course, there is nothing you can do about being in a good mood though, and there did seem to be more people smiling than usual.

Today was also a big packing day, getting ready for our trip to Hungary tomorrow morning. Unfortunately, we are having to move out of our rooms for the two days we are away, which is not an enjoyable task. What this exercise does do however, is show us all how grossly we have over-packed. The 20kg luggage limit is going to be brutal and there will be excess baggage fees galore!

As soon as we get back to Rome, I think many of us are going to have to look at shipping options. The shipping rates are much more reasonable than paying the airline penalties. Now I am off to bed, early training and then a day of travel.
