RHIAN SOCCER JOURNALS

JENN HEIL AND FINDING ITALIAN TAILORS  3rd June 2011

We had A morning training session today, so I was able to spend the afternoon relaxing and catching up on routine matters of life. For me, this involved heading to the local mall in Rome to find a tailor.

I don't know if it is just me on the squad, but every time I buy a new pair of jeans I can't get them to match my giant legs and my waist. The legs always seem to be made for someone a few feet taller. Anyway, this was the situation I found myself in when arriving in Italy. I had brand new pants, but not enough time to find someone to tailor them for me.

I figured that in a fashion conscious country like Italy, it should be easy to find a good tailor. In reality, this proved slightly more difficult than I had thought. It seems that most people in Italy have an acquaintance or family member who takes  care of this kind of thing. Their nonas do it for them, or their aunts, or a friend of a friend. Yesterday was therefore a good day for me as I actually found a place in the mall that could take care of my pants alterations, and in only an hour- nirvana, and yeah I now have wearable pants.

The day kept getting better. We had a very pleasant surprise at dinner, because Jennifer Heil was there. Those who don't know who she is should just look up any reference to the world's best mogul skier. Apparently she was already in Europe and she flew to Rome to get to know us over the next few days. I hope she will impart some of her medal winning mentality and ways. It was really great to meet her and I am looking forward to getting to talks with her over the next two days.
