RHIAN SOCCER JOURNALS

ALL ROADS LEAD TO ROME          7th My 2011

Everyone was feeling slightly less than their best this morning. We had a tough day yesterday.

We only had one session which was something that we were excited about, especially as we had training moved up by 30 minutes so that we could have more time in the evening to head into Rome.

A trip to Rome was going to be special for me as it was going to be the last night to see my sister before she and her husband Chris fly back to Canada.

Marie-Eve, Robyn, D, Mel and I took a cab into town and met them at the fountain in Piazza Navona. When making our plans, this rendezvous sounded like a great idea. However, once we were in the middle of the HUGE Piazza and the crowd it  seemed like less of a good idea.

Somehow it worked out though. We went to eat at a little restaurant that we already knew about as we had eaten dinner there for Karina's birthday. The menu was as good as I remembered it. We enjoyed just sitting back to enjoy each others' company in such a relaxed environment, especially after a hard week on the training pitch.

After eating, we wandered slowly around Rome. Rome is a beautiful city, but it is even more beautiful at night when the crowds have died down and all the fantastic buildings are bathed in an incredible yellow light. We enjoyed the Pantheon and the Trevi fountain before sitting down again for a last little chat before having to say goodbye.

We somehow managed to sit next to a group of francophone Quebecers, so we could so easily have been home in Montreal... other than the fact we were next to the Trevi fountain.

Even stranger was a meeting which occurred as we walked down a side street to where Sara was going to catch the bus. We bumped into Sara and Chris' friends, the ones who had been married in Scotland, and whose wedding Sara ad Chris had flown the Atlantic to attend.

Rome is a huge city and there are millions of people here, so it was amazing that we managed to literally bump into them... what can you say? This is a small world after all!
