RHIAN SOCCER JOURNALS

BREAK FROM CAMP                  6th May 2011

Happy Birthday to CJ who turns 23 today!

I am sorry that I have taken a bit of a hiatus in my journal writing, I have been studying for my physiotherapy exams, exams which I took yesterday. Everyone on the team was wonderful with me, and by this I mean that they did a good job of ignoring me as I stressed my way through the last three days of preparation. I don't think I was at my nicest or best!

My break from camp was a fantastic one, and one I REALLY needed a vacation. I went to the UK and experienced at first hand a premiership game. I managed to squeeze in seeing the royal wedding, and I also saw my family in both England and Wales.

I was in desperate need of some home cooking and I was served up more than enough while staying with my great aunt Molly. I will definitely be missing my Sunday roast this week. She and my grandfather were both in fine form and I am so pleased I had the chance to see them. I also saw the other branch of my family for a couple of days in Rutland.

The crowd moves down the Mall, toward Buckingham Palace, to watch a kiss between Britain's Prince William and his wife Kate, the Dutchess of Cambridge, druring the Royal Wedding in London on Friday, April, 29, 2011.

Robyn and D flew to England from Canada a couple of days early for camp so that they could meet me in London. We made the most of accidentally being in London at a time when the royal wedding was going on. Even though my invitation to the actual event was unfortunately lost in the mail, we were still able to make the most of the celebrations while watching from Hyde Park, just next to and behind Buckingham palace. We were among 100,000 or more spectators and the atmosphere was fantastic. I was really pleased to experience such an occasion and the British do pageantry very well.

The rest of the time in London was spent exploring, doing the obvious touristy things, and getting to see the musical Billy Elliott in London's West end. The show was AMAZING.

After such a busy vacation and break I was almost pleased to get back to training camp to enjoy a little rest... too bad for the exam getting in the way.

My sister and her husband are in Rome at the moment, on the last leg of their three week European trip. I am looking forward to seeing them. They should be arriving this evening for dinner.  Unfortunately I can't meet them downtown as today has ended up being a tough double practice day. However, getting to experience a country's public transportation system is all part of the traveling experience..... right?
Can't wait to see them.
