LSK WOMEN STAY ON TOP WITH 5-1 VICTORY

8th May 2010 (translated from Mari Knudsen)

LSK Women have played against newly-promoted Linderud- Grei on one previous occasion: The  Norway Cup in 2008. On that day LSK won 3-1 against a team that played like a swarm of hornets.

So, we knew that when we went to play them in the Topserrien, we would have a battle on our hands.  They are a hard-working team who never give up. LSK was forced to move the ball, and to think quickly. The 5-1 score line does not reflect the effort of LG in this match.

The match started well for LSK and we forced our first corner after only 4 minutes. Marit placed the ball perfectly, but we could not convert the goal. However, we did win a second corner, and this time Marit curved the ball into the net.

In the 19th minute, Mari Knudsen's my free kick from the left hand side of the field went to Rhian Wilkinson, who hit the ball hard toward goal, where Catherine Dekkerhus header the ball into the goal for a 2-0 score. Six minutes later, LSK scores again.

Catherine flicked the ball on to Mari raced through the defence. The keeper came out and Mari squeezed the ball between her legs and into the goal. 3-0 after 25 minutes. Linderud Grei were just surviving at this point of the match. LSK had plenty of other chances, and we should have scored more goals. In the 35th minute, Rhian had a great chance, twice, to beat the goalie, but she managed to grab the ball. We went to the half time break with a solid 3-0 lead.

During the break we decided to continue the pressure and score more goals, using the space out wide. The reality was that although we scored more goals, we did let up on the pressure. In fact, we allowed Linderud - Grei back into the match. There was little concerted effort.

LG had some dangerous chances using through balls. However, we were the ones to score first. The ball was moved from the left wing to the right, where Dorte Dalum Jensen came at pace. She passed to Rhian who slotted the ball back to her outside the 16 meter area.  She ran across the face of the goal, found an opening and fired. The LG goal keeper was unbalanced and frozen to the spot. The ball arrowed into the goal and suddenly the score is 4-0.

With such a comfortable 4 - 0 lead, LSK eased up, and LG seized the chance. There was a poor back pass that allowed a LG player to move in  alone against Ingrid Bruserud. She placed the ball perfectly, low down on the left and LG had scored a goal.

From here on to the finish, the game ran smoothly for us. LG sought desperately for a second goal, but LSK had their chances too. Rhian received the ball with room on the wing, and made ground. Her cross in front of the goal is missed by two or three LSK players who cannot put the ball in the goal.

Five minutes later, in the 78th minute, Mia Skoglund scored her first Topserrien goal. Once again it is Rhian who comes across to the right wing and again sets the ball up in front and Mia slams the ball into the goal. There is much back and forth after that, but LSK kept control and were deserved winners 5-1.

For LSK,there is good news that Linn-Cecilie Burås played her first top league match since 2007. Her return from injury has been a tough journey for Linn, who is finally back and in from.
