RHIAN'S SOCCER JOURNALS:
BACK IN BEIJING 10th August 2008
We are back in Beijing, and back in the Athletes' village. There is a huge line up for the internet here in the village,
and I am already missing the peace and quiet of our hotel in Tianjin.

I am also very tired today, and I don't think I am alone on our team. I think everyone is pretty much exhausted from yesterday's exertions on the pitch, and, as a result, we are all a little snappier
than usual with one another.
After our arrival at the Village, we were ravenous and ate a very late lunch.
Then we had about two hours to take a little lie down before workout time. We
were told that this workout was not going to be anything heavy, a "flush" session mostly. However, we were
told that it would include a jog to the gym followed by biking, ab work and some upper body work. Unfortunately, the weather was not
cooperative.
The rain, lightning and thunder started some time around 4:00 pm, and it has now been going from strength to strength ever since.
Most people on the squad opted out of going to the gym and they did their "flush" workout on the stairs in our building. However, a few
of the bolder ones among us braved the elements.
This pretty much sums up our full day today. We are back in the village. This is both fun and great for our Olympic experience and for the
facilities and food, but also occasionally it is a pain in the butt. I liked the relative freedom of the hotel, the ability to use the computer when
I wanted, and the ease of just going for a meal. Now, I have to weigh this freedom against the fun of seeing athletic stars that you
have
only ever dreamed about seeing, let alone walking beside you in line for a bowl of soup.

I know I should take more pictures of these people whom I am most excited about meeting, but I am trying to play it cool, and trying not to bother
them .... we will see how long this lasts.

In the meantime, a huge thank you to everyone who has been sending me messages through the website.
The support of Canadian and overseas fans means a great deal to the team. I love hearing from you all:
family; friends; coaches; the Toronto Eagles; strangers. I love hearing
your news and the crazy hours you have to get up to watch the games. I love
Heather Ambury and her friends' version of the "Canada Hub," set up in her house
to support the team.

I will try to get back to everybody, but I beg your indulgence about when I can do this. I am a little behind in my
correspondence, and tonight I will not be trying to catch up. I am excited, exhausted and am going to an early bed. Bonne Nuit!
