RHIAN'S SOCCER JOURNALS:
WASHINGTON DC PREPARATION 8th May 2008
So, we are on our way to play against the United States again, this time in Washington DC.
Fresh from our CSA Press conference at the BC Hall of Fame, the flight yesterday went well. It
was a long day, but we got here eventually. We flew through Montreal, and so I was excited about this. However, the visit ended up
being a bit of a bust.

First, the flight was bumpy and then in Montreal it was teeming with rain. Then, we found that every single store in Dorval's Pierre
Elliott Trudeau airport was closed. We had landed in Montreal at 7:30pm !!!! Even the Starbucks was shut, and so we had a situation
which many of the ladies on the team associate with the end of the world.

We did finally find found one little place that was not quite shut up yet, but then we had to have cash, as they had already closed
down the plastic card swipe machine ( the official name). What took the cake though, in terms of Montreal being a horrible airport,
was the fact the airline left my bag there. We landed in Washington at 9:45 at night and then we sat sadly by the baggage carousel as it
became more and more obvious that five of us were going to be traveling light for the last stage of our journey.
Our wake up call came at 0815 this morning, or 05:30am, depending on how you look at it. No one was in the greatest of moods
but fortunately, the the great breakfast we were served, helped to change that. We were soon on the bus and heading out for
training at Trinity College.

Of course, during the drive over to the practice ground, it started raining in time for training. At least we got a chance to get our legs
going, which is always important after a day of travel. However, it was not one of our better training sessions, and we were all a little slow
getting going... and some of us didn’t get going at all. We will have to do better for the afternoon session.
The drive home was interesting as we drove down the Mall by a ton of national monuments. Unfortunately, I don’t know much about
any of them, but they certainly did look impressive. Big, white, pillars... yada, yada yada.
They were cool, and we learned that they were
built to impress foreign dignitaries with the power and wealth of the American Republic. They impressed me!
We all had a great lunch, and the food is so good that we are all falling in love with this hotel. The way to the Canadian National Team’s
heart is very obviously food related. Then, after lunch, we all had some time to lie down and sneak a little nap in. Except for the students that is,
who got to do homework. The rest and recuperation was much needed and we were all a lot more lively heading to practice number two. If
I mentioned that it rained for the first session, then I have to say that it poured for the second one. It felt like we were standing in a shower
for a big part of the practice. Fortunately, the session still went much better than in the morning, and everyone is quickly getting their
touches and game brains back to the “on” position.
Tonight is TV time as the season finales of both The Office and 30 Rock are on. I can’t wait. Rhian
