RHIAN'S SOCCER JOURNALS:

T n T IN JUAREZ       2nd April 2008

A very happy birthday to Chappy. It is birthday central around here!

Well, as I am sure you all know by now, we won 6-0 and had 6 different scorers: Very exciting. The starting line up was Erin in net, with Randee, Martina, Chappy and Robyn in defense. In mid we were Jonelle, D, Kara and I, with Sincy and Tank up top. The goal scorers today were Tank, Sincy, Jonelle, Jodi, Randee and Kara.

We had a rough first fifteen minutes. Nothing all that scary happened, but we just took a while to calm down and settle into the rhythm of things. After that we took control of the game though, and, I feel, we dominated them in every area.

The Trinidad team played very well and pushed us to the very end, so we are therefore extremely pleased with this win and how convincing it was by the final whistle. We came away with a few scrapes and bruises, something that often happens in these types of tournaments, but nothing major.

We got to watch a bit of the Mexico against Jamaica game which followed ours, but we only watched for about 30 minutes. The crowd is quite something to watch and they are definitely going to be a twelfth player for them in this tournament. However, I must say the crowd was great with us today. They cheered for us non-stop throughout the entire match. However, I will reserve my final comment on the crowd until we play Mexico! When we left, the score was already 4-0. Poor Jamaica. It was never really going to be their night when their goalie made a great save, then thought she had been awarded a free kick, so she rolled the ball on the ground to a spot at the feet of one of the Mexican forwards, who calmly slotted it home- horrible to watch. I noticed that both our goalies let out little shivers and immediately jumped to the defense of the Jamaican goalie. They strenuously complained that the Jamaican goalkeeper had been given bad signals by the ref. Whatever happened it was not good.

We had pizza waiting for us back at the hotel, which was a very welcome and nice surprise. It didn’t take long for us to devour it and then it was upstairs for mandatory ice baths. Getting into these has never been a forte of mine and it takes me forever to actually get into the water. I did eventually manage it though, so yeah for me!!
