RHIAN'S SOCCER JOURNALS:
CANADA TIE CHINA 0 - 0 18th January 2008
(Photographs by Elaine Sun)
We picked up our first points of the Four Nations Tournament at the Guangdong Olympic Sports Center this afternoon, as we tied
China 0 - 0. However, we should have won.

China is a good team and passes really well, so tying them is none too shabby as we have many newcomers on the squad, and others playing in
new positions. But, at the end of it all, the fact remains that we were the better team and we should have beaten China today.
We played an even enough first half with them, although they may have had the edge. Then, in the second half, I think we dominated all over
the park, except in getting shots on net. However, if we want to become medal contenders in tournaments we have to learn to put away games like this one. At
least the tie has given us a little more confidence, and I think we will come out strong against Finland.

I have been trying to decide who on our team deserves special mention for their performances, but I am happy to report that no one gets one.
We played pretty well across the board, even if we didn't win the game. Our starting line up was Karina in net with Mel Booth, Martina, Chappy and I in
defense. Midfield was Sophie Schmidt, Clare Rustad and Randee Hermus in the middle of the park. Then in the forwards we were Sincy, Julie and Jonele. Brit,
Kaylyn and Jodi all came in as subs and played well.
So, to sum the match up, we tied China. It was a good solid game for us, but we have to expect more and better from ourselves. We have to
win these matches. Needless to say, I am once again tired and sore.
We play against Finland (Suomi) next on 20 January (13.00 local time). In the meantime I need some sleep.
