RHIAN'S SOCCER JOURNALS:
POST MATCH RECOVERY
17th January 2008

As is normal the day after a game, not too much really happened. And again, as is normal in China, almost all of us woke up WAY before
our alarms. The reasons are various, but certainly include aches and pains from what was quite a physical game, problems with time zones or the drumming,
marching and orders sounds from the military men who parade in the courtyard outside our window.
However, the rest of the day was a quiet one. We trained at 11:00 am with a recovery session for the starting team, and a little scrimmage for those
players who had seen less playing time.
After training, we headed down to the frigid swimming pool for some hydrotherapy, followed by stretching in the sauna, and then a visit back to
the pool. None of this felt all that great, more like medieval tortures ... well the sauna wasn't too bad. I have to admit though that everyone felt
much better once done with it.

The rest of the day was spent getting treatment, recovering from the many knocks and bruises that go hand in hand with international
matches, shopping and eating. I hope that pork will be on the menu again soon, as I need some protein. I don't trust the chicken and other meats, and we have
only had pork once since we arrived.
Some of the squad have gone shopping. I am just relaxing and looking forward to a better night's sleep.
