RHIAN'S SOCCER JOURNALS: CALIFORNIA BOUND 7th December 2007 Our residency camp has been moving along in rainy British Columbia, but the deluge forced us into indoor practices. We even had heavy snow, enough to build a snowman. Of course we soon became carried away - and the snowman had an accident - just before the rain started again to wash him away. So, we were not too disappointed last Tuesday 4th December to leave rainy, and snowy, Vancouver for the sun and wind, of California - yihaa. And, we are here until 12th December. We were a little nervous before departure about where we were headed in the sunshine State. We were a little worried that Oxnard California, about an hour's drive north of Los Angeles, was not going to be all that great. To be honest, no one had ever heard of it before.
I am pleased to report that it turns out that this place Oxnard is amazing. We are staying at the Embassy Suites hotel, right on the beach' Literally at night we fall asleep to the sound of the ocean and the surf. The wind is strong here on the coast
We flew down south for a break from the rain and the monotony of day-to-day training back in Vancouver and, so far, everything is going very well. Even though the training volume has increased if anything, the fact we are in a new place and doing something a little different is huge.
It is also great having a few new girls out training on the squad. Even has brought in a few younger players and they are showing us how to get things done. I hope they are enjoying their time out with the National squad as we are really enjoying having new (uninjured) faces out on the field with us. I have to report that there is some great talent coming through the National ranks - exciting times for Canada.
