RHIAN'S SOCCER JOURNALS:
TRAINING LIFTING AND KNITTING: RESIDENTIAL CAMP CONTINUES
17th November 2007
This has been an interesting week of training out here in Vancouver. Obviously, as we get back into
top shape, the training has been tough physically, but mostly it has been slightly different than the
usual weeks of training in past camps. This is because we only have a small number of players who are
healthy enough to play.
This residency camp does not have the same number of players as we have had in the past. Many players
are still away at school, while others are out recuperating. However, when slight strains and pulls occur
it means that we have only six healthy players out there to hit the field. Interesting times then begin.
The coaching staff are taking no chances of giving players chronic injuries. They make anyone with any
sort of nagging injury pull out of sessions. There is no point in hurting ourselves now that the Olympic
Qualifiers, our target matches, have been announced for April 2008.
You might think that with only six of us now training out on the pitch, training might be a little easier.
But, it does not. Basically the drills we run are made smaller so that they can accommodate the dwindling
numbers, but that is about the only change. Let's just say that everyone gets plenty of touches on the ball.
Away from the playing preparation, our Twist training is still going strong and I have to admit that I am
happy to get back working out with them. I love the lifting we do there, even though my body is often in need
of traction for the first week back. Then, today's jog through the woods was one I won't soon forget. We were
all soaked thanks to the puddles and the rain pouring down from the latest BC storm. Everyone was in a good
mood though, which was a good thing too, as otherwise Martina might have been thrown in the raging river. She
was jumping in puddles and splashing everyone - what a child!

Later on, I have to report that I had an exciting day with my knitting. I have finished one hat and started
on another. I am still a mediocre knitter at best, but I enjoy the fact that I can now knit and it takes away
stress, or so I'm told; I just knit away, still having to think about the process as I go along. This often
leads to mistakes all over the place, but who cares? I am being productive and I am unstressed!!
My other big news is that I also received a new cell phone today. I am oddly very proud of it. I have
attached a picture so that everyone can "oh and ah" over it, just as I am doing! I have no idea how half the
things on it work, but I love the pretty green cover and this is the reason I picked it. I figured that seeing
as my iPod is green, why not my phone too?
