RHIAN'S SOCCER JOURNALS:
ANDREA NEIL NOMINATED FOR LEADERSHIP AWARD
5th November 2007
In October 2007, Andrea Neil was nominated by the athletes and management of the Canadian National
Women’s Soccer team for the AthletesCAN and Canadian Olympic Committee’s Leadership award.
Andrea did not win this occasion when the award was presented at the 15th AthletesCAN Forum in
Whitehorse, but as Rhian Wilkinson says, “the nomination reflects the appreciation of the team for
all the hard work she puts in, not just as a player, but as a leader on and off the field.”
Soccer Canada's National Women's Team is a member of AthletesCAN, which since 1992, has been
the collective voice of Canadian National athletes, attempting to provide programs of leadership, advocacy and
education to ensure a fair, responsive and supportive sport system for athletes.
AthletesCAN and the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) convene an annual Forum, the largest and
most inclusive annual gathering of Canada's National Team athlete representatives outside of
competition. Over 100 delegates, including athlete reps from over 40 sports participate in the
weekend long assembly. The Forum provides the opportunity to bring together Canada’s high performance
athletes to network with others, share ideas, learn about the sport system and develop leadership
skills.
The Leadership award in 2006 went to Beckie Scott, while the winner of the 2007 award was Bobby Milroy.
