RHIAN'S SOCCER JOURNALS:
NATIONAL TEAM WEDDING BELLS
6November 2007
On Saturday 3rd November 2007, members of Canada's National Women's team
started to descend on Montreal for Amy Walsh's wedding. I don't know if Montreal
was fully ready for their arrival, and I could ask if anywhere or anyone could
ever be ready? However, I am proud that my beautiful city of Montreal withstood
all the scrutiny, even after my constant gloating about it.

Everyone had a brilliant time. On Friday, we went out as a group for a
Montreal Bistro supper, a place well-known to Montrealers called "Au Petit
Extra." Izzy pretty much had to order for everyone as the menu only came in
French. I might have been able to help, but I craftily avoided the situation by
having to move my car. I had dropped the girls off in a less than salubrious
area. I won't go into details about this, other than to say that I felt the need
to lock my doors as soon as I entered the car!
The
wedding was held on Saturday and the weather was amazing. The vows were
exchanged just as the sun was setting over the Richelieu river right behind
them. The scene could not have been more perfect. I could try to describe the
scene and how beautiful Amy looked, but I feel that despite my prose, the photos
will do more justice... J.P. looked great too! The bride and groom spent the
whole evening going round the room making sure everyone was having a good time.
Who does that these days? Further proof that these two people are among the
kindest and most considerate people I have ever met. Both families also did
their all to make the evening one to remember, and they succeeded. The evening
was memorable.
Amy's three sisters were her bridesmaids, while her brother Ian, who is also
one of J.P's best friends, was one of the groomsmen. J.P's brother stood up fopr
him as his best man. I should also mention the fact that the speeches were
outstanding. If, like me, and I am sure many of you, you have ever had to sit
through a long winded speech, filled with inside jokes and laughs that only a
select few are able to enjoy, this was the complete opposite. We all laughed as
we enjoyed the reminiscences.

The night was a late one, and it would have been later still had the D.J. not
shut the music down. I felt that because of the time change we should have
gotten an extra hour for free, but he did not! We made the most of the time we
did have though, as did Amy and her new husband. They helped to shut down the
party with us on the dance floor.

Well that is about it, I think the attached photos will tell more of the story.
We start up again camp soon on the 9th so my next entries will probably be very
different from this last one. Rhian
