OTTAWA FURY & W LEAGUE:

OTTAWA FURY TO HOST EVERTON FC FROM ENGLAND

27th June 2006

The Ottawa Fury are thrilled to announce that Everton FC Ladies, the women’s team of the Everton F.C. English Premier League club, will play against the Ottawa Fury Women on Tuesday July 4th at Keith Harris Stadium at Carleton University. The kick-off is at 6:30 pm.

In the 2005 season, the Everton FC squad finished as runners-up to Arsenal in the Nationwide FA Women’s Premier League with an impressive 14-2-2 record. “We are delighted to welcome Everton to Ottawa in what should be a tremendous match between two of the leading teams in Europe and North America”, enthused Fury President and CEO, John Pugh. “It is not often in the Women’s game that teams of this calibre have the chance to play against each other; it should be a great game for our fans to enjoy.”

The Everton squad includes England internationals, goalkeeper Rachel Brown, defender Rachel Unitt, and midfielders Fara Williams and Emily Westwood. Rachel Brown is no stranger to North America as she went to school at the University of Pittsburgh. She has played in all of England's 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup qualifying games so far.

Rachel Unitt, a full-back with a powerful left foot, was voted the 2005-6 season England Women's Player of the Year. A regular feature in the England squad, she played for the New Jersey Wildcats in the 2005 W League, and will be remembered by Fury fans as the player who opened the scoring in the W-League Championship Final.

Fara Williams is a competitive midfielder with an explosive shot, having scoring 13 goals from England's midfield. She has scored in each of England's first three 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup qualifying games, and she is her country's first choice penalty taker.

Emily Westwood, a skilful midfielder, has played for England at the U16, U19 and U21 level and she made her senior debut against Italy in February 2005.

The Fury would like to thank the Ontario Soccer Association for facilitating the Everton game. The tour is part of the Play Soccer initiative that the OSA launched last year, in partnership with Everton

For ticket information call the Fury at 613-235-3879. Tickets are available at the gate.
