Impact team up with Laval W-League side

The Montreal Impact of the USL First Division has teamed up with the W-League expansion Laval Comètes, to help foster the development of women’s soccer in the province of Quebec.

“The Impact’s mission has always been to help and promote the development of soccer in the province of Quebec,” said Montreal Impact Joey Saputo. “I think it is important to support women’s soccer. Just like boys, girls who play soccer need role models who can guide them and inspire them towards reaching their goals.”

As part of the Impact’s support, Nick Filippone, the team’s Vice-President of Technical and Finance, will also be part of the Comètes’ Board as Vice-President. The Impact will also assist the team in raising sponsorship revenue.

Also teaming up with the the Comètes is Complexe Multi-Sports, the site of its tryouts, and the Quebec Soccer Federation. Pierre Marchand who will be acting as the team's private promoter, while Grolsch beer will also be a major sponsor for the next three years.

Similar to the Impact, the Comètes will be comprised of a majority of players who have come through Quebec’s amateur ranks. Two members of the Canadian National Team, defender Isabelle Morneau (Longueuil) and midfielder Amy Walsh (St.Hilaire) are slated to play for the team in its inaugural campaign.

The following players are presently on trial with the Club: Andréanne Gagné (St. Hyacinthe), Myriam Bouchard (Beauport), Anne-Marie Lapalme (Granby), Sarah Walsh (St. Bruno), Catherine Duchesne (Beauport), Marie-Pier Bilodeau (Beauport), Sandra Couture (Montreal), Shari Fraser (Kirkland), Kelly-Lynn Hemsley (St. Bruno), Caroline Fortier (Montreal), Danielle Day (Ile-Bizard), Éloïse Vandal (Laval) and Kathryn Acton (Beaconsfield)

The Comètes will play their first-ever home opener at Laval’s Bois-de-Boulogne Sports Complex on May 20, against the Hamilton Avalanche. The following day, the Impact will play its 13th home opener in club history at Claude-Robillard Sports Complex, against the Minnesota Thunder.
